Edgar in Peter Rabbit’s World
My latest commission was such fun to paint. Meet Edgar, aged 18 months – who, if you haven’t guessed it already, is a big Peter Rabbit fan!
Usually, I take the photograph that’s I’m going to use for the painting, but this time, Edgar’s dad took it. I knew when I saw it that it was the photo and that I could do something interesting with it. Usually, I exactly replicate the photo, but this time I decided to make some adaptations to create the finished result you see here.
The original photo had a brick wall and patio chairs behind the glass, but I thought it was the perfect opportunity to create something interesting… something a bit different. I didn’t know what the background should include at first, so I did some research and asked friends and colleagues until the idea was formed.
Creating Peter Rabbit Land
Eventually, I decided to take inspiration from Peter Rabbit himself and create a whole new world – Peter Rabbit Land – playing on children’s curiosity and imagination. I could see an adventurous look in Edgar’s eyes!
But there was another addition I wanted to make… The pan Edgar was playing with was empty which was the perfect opportunity to have some fun and add in some carrots – because Peter Rabbit needs food, of course! You wouldn’t believe how hard it was to find the right carrots – it took a few visits to find ones of the right sizes, but I got there in the end. I then needed to position them to make them work in the painting. The glamorous life of a painter, eh!
Here’s what Edgar’s family thought of the painting:
“Oh my gosh…just WOW Izabela. You have captured my baby so well. I absolutely adore your portrait of Edgar. It takes me back to how he was when he was that small. So talented.” Charlotte
“Izabela, your picture of Edgar is amazing it’s absolutely incredible. Such a dream world. Really captures what you think a baby’s imagination might be. You should be incredibly proud of this it is breathtaking.” Holly
I loved creating a new, imaginative world for Edgar and his family to treasure for years to come.
…And I’m excited to have another painting in the pipeline for a family who’d like a painting of their twins in an imaginative world with Mickey Mouse, Dumbo and Winnie-the-Pooh – such fun!
